Children educated about the growth of pumpkins
A family farm is turning its harvest into a hands-on attraction, with families invited into the fields to see, pick and taste produce grown as part of its expanding crop range.
Lower Drayton Farm, near Penkridge, has brought back its Harvest Hoedown event at PLAY@ Lower Drayton Farm for a third year and courgettes have proved to be a well-received new addition.
Families can take a tractor and trailer ride into the fields before picking seasonal vegetables including carrots, potatoes, beetroot and sweetcorn to take home.
The event aims to give visiting families a better understanding of how food is grown, and has been helped to fruition thanks to a £60,000 investment in 2023 into robotic technology to sow and hoe the crops.
