Commissioner gets funding to support county over early prisoner release programme
Cheshire's police commissioner will get £195,000 from the government to support victims affected by the prisoner early release programme.
Commissioner Dan Price said over the last decade, the population of the country had grown by more than 10 per cent but the prison capacity grew by only half a per cent.
"This is at the core of the challenge that we are facing in the criminal justice system, and it's why I am so supportive of the government's planned investment in increasing the prison capacity," he said.
"The government has introduced a progression model, that is a new structured approach to releasing prisoners, ultimately making sure the criminal justice system works."
He said police and crime commissioners (PCCs) were being given £195,000 'to help victims feel safe, informed, and crucially supported’.
