Fourth arrest over stabbing

Detectives investigating the death of a 20-year-old at the centre of a North Staffordshire murder probe have made a fourth arrest. It comes after two defendants appeared in court charged with Jamie Evans' murder.

Now the force has confirmed both Corey Hughes and Connor Edward Cartlidge have been remanded in custody as detectives continue to appeal for witnesses. And yesterday Staffordshire Police made a fourth arrest as part of the ongoing investigation.

It comes as police and paramedics had been sent to Orme Road in Newcastle on Friday following reports of a collision involving a Ford Fiesta and a parked Audi. Jamie, of Stone, the driver of the Ford was said to have been found with a stab wound which officers believe he suffered on Orme Road before getting into the car.

The force has also revealed how yesterday a 38-year-old man, of Stoke-on-Trent, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. He has since been released on conditional bail.

Previously a 19-year-old man, from Newcastle, was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. He was released on conditional bail.
