Misconduct hearing for Royal stoke doctor who left the country goes ahead

A misconduct hearing for a doctor who left the UK in the wake of sexual assault accusations has been given the go-ahead to proceed in his absence.

Dr Jawad Ahmad faces allegations of sexual harassment against a junior doctor in 2020, while they both worked at the Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent.

He was also accused of failing to inform his employer of his arrest on suspicion of sexually assaulting against a teenage girl, in June 2020.

Ahmad left the country about five years ago, after the allegations were raised and was believed to be in Pakistan, Staffordshire Police said.

A Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) hearing, which began earlier in Ahmad's absence, was told there were six allegations of misconduct.
