MP launches campaign for control of derelict buildings

A Staffordshire MP has launched a campaign to change the law over the way councils can take control of derelict buildings owned by absentee or overseas landlords. Stafford’s Labour MP Leigh Ingham says too many are neglected costing local authorities high amounts to force people to sell. She says by removing the charge they could take action more easily.

Meanwhile a busy road in Stoke on Trent was closed overnight as buildings damaged by fire were finally knocked down. Two fires broke out in vacant properties in Market Street in Longton towards the end of last year but the demolition was twice put on hold.
