Poppy waterfall to appear in Whitchurch

A cascade of handmade poppies will soon flow in tribute to people who have died in wartime as a community group bids to create a poppy waterfall.

The group in Calverhall has launched an appeal for knitted and crocheted poppies to create a striking "poppy waterfall" display at Holy Trinity Church in time for Remembrance Sunday in 2026.

The Knit & Natter group in Calverhall is leading the project and hopes to gather hundreds of handmade flowers to form a collective tribute.Organisers are calling on crafters of all skill levels to contribute, whether they can make one poppy or dozens, in the hope that hundreds of poppies will come together to create the waterfall from the church.

The poppies will be stitched together to form the finished installation.

Yarn can be collected from the Knit & Natter sessions held at Holy Trinity Church every Friday between 10.30 am and 12.30 pm.

Official Royal British Legion patterns are available online for both knitting and crochet.

The deadline for completed poppies is Friday, October 16, 2026.
