Residents urged to keep doors and windows closed with town centre fire

Residents in a town centre are being urged to keep doors and windows closed this morning as fire crews tackle a building fire.

Five crews are currently in attendance in Tunstall town centre and the aerial platform is being used. Crews from Newcastle, Burslem Sandyford and Hanley are at the scene and they are also using the aerial platform. People are being asked to avoid the area and Roundwell Street and High Street in Tunstall remain closed.

A spokesperson for the Fire and Rescue service said: "We have five pumps and an aerial ladder platform at a building fire in the centre of Tunstall. Please avoid the area.

"Due to the nature of this fire, we advise people in the vicinity to keep doors and windows closed. High Street and Roundwell Street are both closed to all traffic. Avoid the area."
