Two arrests after Sandyford fires

Detectives have arrested a man and woman on suspicion of arson following the huge blaze in Sandyford. The suspects, aged 23, and 24, were arrested this morning (August 14) as police say they are 'working at pace' to investigate the circumstances of Thursday's devastating fire.

Officers say four homes were affected by the blaze with a number of gardens also hit. Six firefighters were taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital - where one remains to receive treatment.

The community has also continued to rally over the blaze that saw a number of residents evacuated. Goldenhill Community Centre provided refuge while Goldenhill Workingmen's Club has since become the hub.

Yesterday police taped off Sandyford Park after eight fire engines, and the aerial ladder platform, along with four ambulances had been scrambled to the incident at around 4.15pm. An investigation continues today (August 14) into the cause of the blaze which affected properties on Maureen Avenue and Sandy Road.
