About Ashleigh Whitfield
Why/how did you become involved in radio?
I entered a competition that my dad had heard about while listening to ‘Goffy in the Morning’ at the then Century Radio. I ‘won’ the job as traffic and travel presenter then got roped into covering overnights on Century, then several other stations.
What is your most memorable radio moment so far?
Hosting a gig and introducing Girls Aloud and the likes in front of thousands of people!
What is the song that ‘lifts your day?’
Long Train Runnin’ by the Doobie Brothers and Toto Hold the Line
How are you feeling about joining the Blue Sky team?
I have never worked for a radio station that has such a diverse playlist and I love it! They are a fantastic, passionate and dedicated team of people - some absolute legends in the radio world and I’m very grateful to work alongside them.
What is it you like about our local area (North Staffs and South Cheshire)?
I love the countryside and the heritage and there’s always something new to do. There’s a great community feel.
Fun fact!
I’ve been a continuity announcer for the BBC for 20 years and introduced the Queen’s funeral as well as the last ever Gavin and Stacey episode. I’ve got to be honest, I have never been so nervous in my entire life!
