About Lee Finan

Why/how did you become involved in radio?

As a kid I remember listening to Tony Blackburn and Kenny Everett and thinking wouldn’t it be wonderful to work in radio. I had my own radio station (Radio Zodiac) in my garden shed at age 12 and I entertained the family with my dulcet tones.

What is your most memorable radio moment so far?

Oh my goodness, there are so many. I’ve been privileged to have interviewed many stars (George Michael, Robbie Williams, Cher, Take That, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Tom Jones, Phil Collins and The Spice Girls to name but a few). I also loved broadcasting live from Disneyworld in Florida a few times, that was great fun too.

Summarise some of your career highlights

My first radio gig was in Staffs and Cheshire at the tender age of just 20 presenting a children’s show called ‘Junior Jukebox’ with my mate Nigel the Gnome. I spent 7 fantastic years in Staffordshire and Cheshire and absolutely loved doing Lee’s Late Nite Show live from various nightlclubs across the region.

I worked for Metro Radio in Newcastle upon Tyne for 7 years. We broadcast our evening show on occasions live from the local Arena to a paying audience of 10,000 screaming fans singing along to Ant & Dec, Boyzone, Spice Girls. That was fun.

What is the song that ‘lifts you day?’

Ooh far too many, it depends on the mood of the day. I love “Who Loves You’ by Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons. It’s one of those songs that gives me a smile every time I hear it.

How are you feeling about joining the Blue Sky Team?

I am Over The Moon to be joining Blue Sky Radio. They are such a devoted, professional, and fun team to be working with. Whilst other stations just play the same 150 songs over and over again, Blue Sky Radio will be a breath of fresh air playing the songs that people love!

What is it you like about our local area North Staffs and South Cheshire?)

I spent 7 great years in Staffs and Cheshire back in the 1980's and it hasn't changed - it’s the people who make a community. The people of Staffs and Cheshire are fun, down to earth, lovely people and I am tickled pink to be back on air in the area again.,
