About Scott James

Why/how did you become involved in radio?

When I was a nipper, both of my nans would play their Ann Breen LPs and buy me records from jumble sales - I’d play them on my Dad’s hugely expensive stacker system - not before he’d threatened me not to “ruddy bost it”

My radio ‘break’ came when my Grandad, a hospital theatre orderly, got me a job on hospital radio - I repayed his faith by getting sacked at 16..... My first professional gig was at a station in Birmingham doing overnight shows and a few days later the owner closed it down and left us sitting on packing crates! After a few years in the wilderness, I popped up in Wolverhampton - things took off from there - I hosted the station’s live events and roadshows and now I’ve finally landed at Blue Sky Radio!

What is your most memorable radio moment so far?

Listening to a man called Les Ross on a Birmingham station - the most wonderfully self-deprecating presenter; never a music DJ but his personality was infectious.

My own most memorable radio moment was presenting live from the Dougie Mac’s Moonlight Walk in 2025, hosting and talking to hundreds of listeners and sharing their memories and experiences - all with their own emotional stories to tell - and playing songs to keep them going as the sun set across Stoke On Trent

What is the song that lifts your day?

Two songs are very special songs to me.....

Ronan Keating’s “When you say nothing at all” was the first song my wife and I danced to at our wedding... and The Adventures “Broken Land” - a hugely powerful song whose lyrics really resonate.

How did you feel about joining the Blue Sky team?

I was late to the Blue Sky party and was massively nervous and excited to be joining a station with big local radio legends on the line up! They’ve all been hugely welcoming and now they’ve been daft enough to let me host Blue Sky Radio Breakfast each weekday from 7.00.....fools!

What is it you like about our local area (North Staffs and South Cheshire)?

I know it sounds clichéd – it's the people! I’ve always said that the folk of Staffordshire and Cheshire are the most honest-to-goodness and generous there is, always very welcoming and kind wherever you go. Also, the world-famous oatcakes – they say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, so they had me at crispy bacon and cheese!!!

Fun fact!

My Mom had the police storm her house thinking she had a stash of guns - which turned out to be a plastic toy..... I’ve had a custard pie in the face from the Phantom Flan Flinger when I was 5 years old (oh how my parents laughed!) and I’ve pounced on Ronan Keating at Birmingham Airport and asked him to speak to my wife on the phone, which he did – she thought I was messing around and told me to “stop chuffing about" (in stronger language!) and was hugely embarrassed when he convinced her who he was!
