Why/how did you become involved in radio?
A chance meeting with Bruno Brookes led to me writing to my local radio station to see if they had any weekend jobs. I started out answering the phones for the Amazing Miller’s electric wireless show, a swapshop for listeners across Staffordshire and Cheshire.
What is your most memorable radio moment so far?
There are too many to mention but I do recall Spending 6 months in the rain (well it felt like it!) at the National Garden festival in Etruria, interviewing the likes of Donny Osmond, Keith Atack and David Essex.
What is the song that ‘lifts your day?’
Daniel Boone’s ‘Beautiful Sunday’. It reminds me of my first package holiday with my parents in 1979 to Magaluf. Every night, the resident band would start off the night with the song – although they changed words of the song from ‘Beautiful Sunday’ to whichever day of the week it was!
How are you feeling about joining the Blue Sky team?
I have worked with most of the Blue Sky Team over the decades, so it is exciting to join them for the launch and share our passion for local radio. I can’t wait to host weekend breakfast and who knows maybe we could share a bacon and cheese oatcake together?
What is it you like about our local area (North Staffs and South Cheshire)?
While the technicalities of radio has changed over the 40+ years, being passionate about the area we call home hasn’t. During my career I have worked at most of our local stations producing, presenting and managing. I love connecting with our audiences and will certainly aim to ‘lift their day’.
Fun fact!
Along with my husband Sam Plank we won the Queen Mothers Award for ‘talking rubbish’, educating youngsters about Keeping Britain Tidy !
